"IF YOU WANT TO GET AHEAD, GO TO CWRT SART!"

It seems that this statement applies to staff as well as pupils as we say congratulations and "Au Revoir" to Mrs S. Hollister on her appointment as Headteacher to Cefn Hengoed School. Despite only being with us for two years as Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Hollister has made a huge impact on the school and teaching and non-teaching staff, governors, parents and especially the pupils will be very sad to see her leave. We would like to take this opportunity to wish her every success in her new school and to thank her for her hard work, commitment and expertise. We also wish Mrs. S. James and Mrs Lindsay Davies success in their exciting new roles at Maesteg and Gowerton Schools respectively - they too will be missed by staff and pupils. Good luck to Mrs E. Pritchard as she embarks on her teaching qualification at Swansea University and welcome to Debbie Jones as Careers Adviser, Vickie Riley (French) and Mrs. H. Priddle (Art).

LOOKING BACK… AND FORWARD!

We are now in our final term at Cwrt Sart. We've had an enjoyable and memorable 5 years. We'll remember the good times rather than the bad and the opportunities, experiences and friends encountered on the way. Our first year at Cwrt Sart seems a very long time ago and we remember our very first day - everyone seemed huge and scary and the school was a maze of corridors but it didn't take long to settle in and now we wonder where those 5 years have gone. We are sad to leave but ready to move on. Katie: "There are so many good memories but music stands out, especially the concerts, and Dan Y Coed was such fun". Lloyd: "For me the best part has been the sport, especially football - and I'm proud to be Head Boy - my mum is too!" Nick: "From Year 7, Drama has been fun. We've had some hilarious moments - also being involved in the interviews for the Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher and feeling you were valued and listened to."

SENIOR PREFECTS 2007 - 2008

Congratulations to Head Girl - Chloe Maddocks, Head Boy - James Clark, and Senior Prefects - Hannah Matthews, Sophie Rothero, Nicola Gould, Broni Wilkinson, Thomas Beck, Ben Mugford, Shaun David, Ross Jenkins and Rhys Lloynes on their recent appointments - they are already doing a good job of break and lunchtime duties.

Cwrt Sart celebrate excellent GCSE results again !

Huw Lloyd, headteacher, said:

"Cwrt Sart pupils and staff were celebrating on Thursday when  51% of  its
year 11 students gained  at least 5A*-C grades. This equals the schools best
ever performance, and places the school in benchmarking group 1.

Headteacher Huw Lloyd said “ These are outstanding results and shows that
the school continues to go from strength to strength.  I am particularly
pleased that the number of passes gained in the core subjects rose, and the
number of pupils gaining As and A* rose in a similar fashion.

These are important results for the pupils involved and will enable a higher
percentage than ever before to go on to higher education.  This is very good
news for the school  and  for the community. These results will support the
process of regeneration within the locality ” The school is keen to stress
these wider implications and has restructured itself as a community
comprehensive in order to drive forward this agenda."

Pupils were also delighted with their results and some quotes include:

"Coursework caused great pressure and the exam papers were difficult and
challenging, but this is why a lot of effort was needed from us and by
working with our teachers and help from home, we were able to get good
results" - Katie Greener
and putting it bluntly "Thank God I revised" - Alice Frith
